Mistakenly, some find it only in the beauty of creation they see around them. There is a beauty in mathematics that many cannot see, but Mark Sherwin can.
He observes the same beauty that David observed when he gazed into the night sky in Psalm 147.
“He counts the number of the stars; He calls them all by name. Great is our Lord, and mighty in power; His understanding is infinite.”
While speaking with Mark he admits that, while it may seem odd on its surface, there is indeed beauty in mathematics. And it reveals the character of God in everything around us.
The same mathematics that were used during 3000 years ago in Daniel’s time, we still use today.
In high school Mark was placed with a geometry teacher who seemed to struggle with engaging students. Classmates would come to Mark and ask him for help. He found that he had begun teaching his own classmates, and that not only could he teach, but he had a knack for explaining things in a way others could understand.

Mark admits that he had his own amount of snark as a student. He realizes that inquisitive students today still want to know complex answers to deep questions about our world. A world that grows increasingly dark.
Having grown up in a Christian household going to a Christian school, he values the gift of a Christian education. As he completed his degrees in Education at Bob Jones University, he taught at a public school as part of the degree program. The difference he saw was striking.
Where he had been taught the answers to the questions of why we exist, how the world came to be, or what our purpose in life is – these students lived like none of that mattered. Devaluing their lives, they would seek fruitless, and often dangerous things to try and fill the emptiness they had.
For Mark, he wants our Academy students to graduate knowing that their education isn’t done, he wants them to be thinkers; lifetime learners. The truth is not afraid of the question, and Mark wants them to ask, and more importantly – ask God.
