In the spring of 2020 the US Government  passed an economic stimulus package designed to offset the negative financial effects of the Corona Virus Pandemic. Many were forced inside their homes to slow the spread of the disease which led to business shutdowns, layoffs, and a stock market plunge. Many lost financial security instantly. As the days passed, our government put together a stimulus package that would put money back into the hands of the American people. This helped many families keep food on the table, a roof over their heads and money in the bank.

It is always exciting to see generosity! Give people what they need to solve a big problem they have! This isn’t anything new however. About 2,020 years ago, God supplied the world with a spiritual stimulus package that would help everyone receive the help they desperately needed. Sin is a spiritual disease we all have, a global pandemic in its own right.  Romans 3:23 says “for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.”

Our government gave us money to help off-set financial consequences that arose from the Covid-19 outbreak, just as God gave us Jesus to off-set our spiritual consequences that come from our sin. John 3:16 tells us For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

“Who cares” you might say. God does because he loves you!  Romans 5:8 tells us But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” You and I needed assistance with a spiritual bailout and God provided one for us!

While on the cross, Jesus said the words, “it is finished” which is translated from the Greek writings, “paid in full”. The debt was paid. The stimulus can go forth! The government gave us money to help us financially for a month or two. Jesus Christ paid to help us spiritually forever!

A financial stimulus helped and gave a huge relief when the economy slowed. A spiritual gift from God is more than helpful; it is life-changing. You can be forgiven of your sin and know that Heaven is your home when you die. Did you receive a stimulus check from the U.S. Government? What did you do with it?  Receive or reject? Will you receive the free gift of salvation or will you reject it? God wants you to keep it!

  1. Admit you are a sinner to God
  2. Believer that Jesus died, was buried, and rose again for you
  3. Commit your life to following Jesus as your Lord and Savior
